Overview

Pearl Jam is an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990 during the rise of the Pacific Northwest’s grunge music scene. The band’s original lineup included vocalist Eddie Vedder, guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, bassist Jeff Ament, and drummer Dave Krusen. Since 1998, drummer Matt Cameron has been a permanent member of the group.

Pearl Jam emerged at a pivotal moment in rock music, when alternative bands from Seattle were beginning to challenge the dominance of mainstream hard rock and pop. The release of the band’s debut album Ten in 1991 introduced audiences to songs such as “Alive,” “Even Flow,” and “Jeremy,” helping establish Pearl Jam as one of the defining bands of the era.

Over the decades, Pearl Jam has become known not only for its music but also for its powerful live performances, loyal global fan community, and willingness to engage with social and political issues. Through evolving musical styles, extensive touring, and a commitment to artistic independence, the band has maintained a lasting presence in popular music.
